Sex purchasing takes place between consenting adults and is thus a private matter

A large proportion of individuals exploited in prostitution and human trafficking were victimized as early as when they were minors, and many sex purchasers buy sex from a younger woman, sometimes under 18. To claim that sex purchasing is a private matter fails to take account of the fact that people do not necessarily have equal bargaining positions in terms, for example, of social or financial status. Prostitution is based on unequal and exploitative relationships. It cannot be reduced to the private sphere. Society has to protect its most vulnerable individuals.
